We got away from Hoth, but the hyperdrive motivator was shot. Lando had a mining colony on Bespin, it was close enough to make it. It just... took a while.

No one tells me anything! [They were too busy being attacked by mutant space zombies, like that matters.]

How does Leia know Lando, anyway? He seems a little cocky for Leia to like him much. [Um, Luke, remember who you're talking to.] Not that... you... oh, nevermind.

[In fairness they're usually busy being attacked by something or other.]

I knew Lando. I figured he was our best bet, except Vader got there first.

Now, that I believe.

[Note to self: disregard observations made while delirious.]

How do you know him?

We go way back. Worked together a couple times. Played cards. That kinda thing.

[Criminal things. What else?]

Anyway, he turned us over to Vader.

[A loud crash.]

[He sounds much more bothered by that prospect than the matter-of-fact declaration of betrayal.]

[Don't make him go... wherever you are.]

I told you, the Empire got there first. It wasn't us he wanted, so the deal was they were gonna turn me over to a bounty hunter, and Leia and Chewie could stay in the city.

Then why was he on the ship with Leia! Does Leia know? He- He saved my life on Cloud City-!

Yeah, I know. He changed his mind, helped them escape. That was after--

[after he was frozen, which he still doesn't like thinking about.]

She could tell you more. I know they got away.

[It's then that Luke's mouth catches up with him. Gently:] I'll ask her.

[Han gave himself up for them. He shouldn't push him.]

It sounds like you know Lando better than anyone. What do you think?

I think he didn't know what he was getting into.

I can see why you're friends.

What's that mean?

You sound like you've got a lot in common, that's all. Then again, when do any of us know what we're getting into lately.

That's for sure.

[A pause.]

I trust him more now than I did then, I think. So that's something.

Because he changed his mind?

He's not the guy he was ten years ago, that's all.

[And neither is Han, and he can't really blame Lando for selling out the man he thought Han was.]

[Some more sounds of idle tinkering as Luke thinks that over.]

[Is Luke kind of angling to learn more about who Han was before? Maybe.]

No idea. Maybe he liked being in charge of something a little more legal.

So... you don't think he would have changed on his own?

How's that not on his own? Who knows why he went off and got himself a city.

Besides. He could've let Vader take them.

But- do you think he did it because you were old friends? Or just because it was the right thing to do?
