IN-CHARACTER:
Character name: Han Solo
Character journal: [personal profile] straightouttacarbonite
Series name: Star Wars
Canon notes: Taken from shortly after the end of Episode IV, A New Hope-- after leaving Yavin IV, on his way to Cyrkon to get sucked into more Rebel shenanigans.

Species: Human

History: that wasn't my fault!

Personality:

For most of his life, Han has been a (relatively) shameless criminal. His main focus was taking care of himself, his Wookiee best friend, and his ship. He's impulsive, disorganized, and chafes at authority pretty much on principle. He's a talented pilot and pretty clever, but there's no chance he'd have done well in the Imperial military. He's got basically zero tolerance for bureaucracy. Having grown up on Corellia, orphaned at a young age, he's extremely pragmatic about doing whatever it takes to get by. That means he's made his living smuggling drugs for crime lords and robbing other crime lords and basically finding exciting new laws to break and people to double-cross.

He does have a code, of sorts-- he usually roots for the underdog, he doesn't really have the stomach to screw over people who are already being screwed over, and, again, he strongly mistrusts authority. His one big hot-button issue is slavery-- which is the main reason he can't stand the Empire. Rescuing Chewbacca was a major turning point in his life-- he states, at one point, that Chewie really saved him, getting him back on a better path. (Plus, you know, it doesn't hurt to have some muscle on your side.)

Unfortunately for Han, his tendency towards single-minded self-interest doesn't really pay off in the long run. By the time we meet him in A New Hope, he's got a sizable bounty on his head because he dumped a cargo of drugs and bolted, rather than risk himself to finish his job. But his choice to help Luke and Obi-Wan had nothing to do with their cause-- he just needed the money.

All that said-- he's got better instincts than he wants to admit to. He gets involved-- constantly proclaiming he's only in it for the money, but still, he sticks around. Helps rescue Leia. Becomes friends with Luke. Stays a huge skeptic about the Force, but continues to get embroiled in Jedi nonsense. The truth is, because of his secret moral code, he does kind of legitimately sympathize with the Rebel cause. He keeps complaining and claiming he'll leave as soon as he gets paid-- but, spoiler alert, he won't. (Also, he usually doesn't get paid, but it's kind of a moot point.) His soft spot for lost causes and the friendships he forms with Leia and Luke help turn him around.

(So does the slow, building realization that literally no one else in the galaxy but Chewbacca trusts or likes him, but, you know.)

In spite of his slow moral improvement, he's still cocky and willful, likelier to shoot first than take the diplomatic route. Luckily, when you're trying to overthrow a corrupt totalitarian government, they usually call it "bravery" instead of recklessness. He's got a temper, but he's starting to be better at suppressing it. He's snarky and boastful and sarcastic and charming when he wants to be-- though he tends to revert to being kind of a jackass when he feels vulnerable. We're a ways off from the willing self-sacrifice part of his life, but he did (against his better judgment) just accept another job for the Alliance, so they'll make a Rebel war hero out of him yet. Kind of.

Abilities: Nothing supernatural (except maybe more than his fair share of luck.) Han is a talented pilot, a fantastic shot, an incorrigible tinkerer when there are engines within reach, a pretty good card player, and a (usually) more than decent liar. He's got good reflexes and is good with his hands.

Augment Skillset: Preferably Pilot, because he'll be a sulky disaster doing anything else.

^ These are all playing from a slightly different canon point during my stay in another game, but I hope they pass muster-- otherwise I'm happy to produce something else for the purposes!
